Bawating (or Baawitig) is the Ojibwe word for rapids and is also the original name of the town that was re-named Sault Ste. Marie by the French settlers. This name was chosen as a tribute to both my home town and to my Ojibwe heritage.
Two-Eyed Seeing (Etuatmumk) is a concept and guiding principle developed by Mi'kmaq Elder, Dr. Albert Marshall that promotes 'learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing ,and from the other eye with the strength of mainstream knowledges and ways of knowing, and to use both eyes together, for the benefit of all'.
Bawating Building Science was established as an Indigenous-owned business to focus on on projects that effect Indigenous communities. However, we are interested in working with anyone who is looking to create durable, efficient and healthy buildings.
